What should you bring to Long Lake?

You will receive an information packet in the mail before coming to Long Lake. An official packing list will be included. Please use it!

We promise: you'll have more fun if you're well prepared.


Outdoor Explorers and Eco Explorers:

You'll need:
light sleeping bag
comfortable walking shoes or boots
pillow & pillowcase
sneakers (for bog trekking, volleyball, etc.)
pajamas
socks (lots! 6 pairs or more)
towels (minimum of 3, one for swimming)
poncho or rain gear
soap
hat and/or cap
washcloth
insect repellent (liquid type is best)*
toothbrush & toothpaste
swimsuit and beach towel
other personal toiletry items
rubber flip-flop sandals
comb
pencil and/or pen
long & short sleeve shirts
notebook
3 or 4 T-shirts
laundry bag
jacket
sunscreen
sweatshirt (hooded) and/or sweater
medication (labeled. Will be turned in.)
underwear for 6 days
drinking cup and water bottle
2 or 3 pairs shorts
3 pairs of pants (at least one older pair that can get dirty.)

You might want:
Camera
Binoculars
Appropriate musical instrument

Discovery River:

For your stay on campus you'll need items similar to those listed above, including shirts, pants, underclothes, etc. You'll also need a pillow with pillow case, a bath towel, and a small amount of soap and shampoo.

For the trip you'll need:
Sleeping bag with stuff sack: compact
Rain gear: jacket and pants
Foam sleeping pad: compact
Lightweight hiking boots
Two pairs heavy wool or polypro socks
Camp shoes and socks
Aquasocks
2 pairs long pants
2 short sleeved shirts
1 long sleeved shirt
Sweatshirt (hooded) and/or sweater
3 pairs underwear
1 pair shorts
1 swimsuit
2 large bandanas
Hat with brim or visor
Sunglasses
Towel: small hand towel
Small flashlight
Personal water bottle
Assorted zip-lock bags
2 or 3 tough plastic garbage bags

Personal ditty bag with:
toothbrush and toothpaste,
insect repellent,
chapstick,
sunscreen,
pen or pencil,
small notebook,
comb, and
personal sanitary articles.

Boundary Waters Expedition:

For the trip you'll need:
Sleeping bag with stuff sack: compact
Rain gear: jacket and pants are essential.
Foam sleeping pad: compact
Lightweight hiking boots
Two pairs heavy wool or polypro socks
Camp shoes and socks
Aquasocks
2 pairs long pants
3 short sleeved shirts/tank tops
1 long sleeved shirt
Sweatshirt (hooded) and/or sweater
5 pairs underwear
1 pair shorts
1 swimsuit
2 large bandanas
Hat with brim or visor
Sunglasses
Towel: small hand towel
Small, lightweight flashlight
Personal water bottle (liter size)
Assorted zip-lock bags
2 or 3 tough plastic garbage bags
Duffel bag for separating trip gear


Personal ditty bag with:

insect repellent,

pen or pencil,
small notebook,
comb, and
personal sanitary articles.

You'll be on campus briefly on Sunday evening, Friday evening, and Saturday morning. You'll need shirts, pants, underclothes, etc. for that time. You'll also need a pillow with pillow case and a bath towel.
