Employment Opportunities at Long Lake
Seasonal Naturalists: all positions are filled for 2009-2010 school year.

Seasonal Naturalist

Joining the LLCC staff as a Seasonal Naturalist gives you experience for a lifetime. Seasonal Naturalists are at the heart of the environmental education world, gaining truly hands-on skills. At Long Lake, Seasonal Naturalists both learn and teach. They learn through observation of and interaction with our creative and dynamic year-round staff. They teach by sharing knowledge with students, and also by bringing fresh insights and individual expertise to our community.

Seasonal Naturalist responsibilities:

  • Care for the health, safety, enjoyment, and enrichment of our visiting students.

  • Observe, take notes, and teach classes.

  • Teach and lead classes independently, once comfortable with the curriculum.

  • Work weekends on a rotating basis.

  • Willingly work outdoors in all kinds of weather.

  • Assist Education Department in other areas.

Seasonal Naturalist privileges:

  • Salary plus room & board.

  • Learn about all aspects of a residential learning center, including food service, maintenance, and administration.

  • Receive regular evaluations and feedback from the instruction coordinator.

  • Live on campus in a private apartment at the south end of the North Star Lodge. (The apartment has private sleeping quarters for up to eight, a communal kitchen, living room, and two bathrooms.)

Duration: September through May. We also consider applications for shorter terms, with a three-month minimum.

Qualifications: Many LLCC Seasonal Naturalists are recent graduates with bachelors degrees in biological sciences, environmental education, recreation, or related fields. We also consider applicants from a wider variety of fields.
