Phenology is the observation of natural phenomena as relates to the changing seasons. Staff and visitors at Long Lake maintain a list of observations, which we add weekly to this page.

There has not been enough snow yet this winter to cross country ski at LLCC.
The Snow Snake activity has been done on Long Lake because that is the only place on the LLCC campus which has enough snow cover to hold the activity.

Noon - On Wilderness Meal activity, which was being held near the GPS course near the LLCC property line, a wolf-killed deer carcass was discovered.

Four species of woodpecker on or near LLCC feeders at one time (Pileated, Hairy, Downy and Red-bellied)

6:00 a.m. Bobcat tracks in staff parking lot led to the compost bin

The year begins with a brown covered ground and warm weather.  Snow is needed to put moinsture in the ground for a healthy Springtime.
